Deck Inspection and Drainage

We never install over a deck we haven't assessed. Soft boards, rotten joists, inadequate drainage fall and missing insulation are all identified before installation. Where drainage fall is below 1:80, we install tapered insulation or firring pieces to create the correct gradient. GRP fibreglass requires two layers of fibreglass matting, correct upstand heights at all abutments, and UV-protective topcoat. Not installed below 5°C.

GRP fibreglass £80–£120/m². Typical rear extension (20–25 m²) £1,800–£3,600. EPDM rubber £70–£110/m². All flat roofing carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Free written quote after survey — no work starts without your written acceptance.

Birstall Village: Pre-1920 Traditional Roofing

The older village core of Birstall — Church Road, Birstall Street and the surrounding pre-1920 properties — represents a specialist roofing category distinct from the post-war estate housing that makes up much of wider Birstall. Cottages, Victorian semi-detached and Edwardian detached properties in the village core were built with traditional materials: clay plain tile, Welsh slate, lime mortar, natural stone and hand-dressed lead work. Modern roofing materials — concrete interlocking tile, cement mortar, synthetic slate — are not appropriate on these properties and in some cases may require planning consent if they materially change the character of the building. We carry out all work in Birstall Village to the correct traditional specification without needing to be asked.

We accept bank transfer and card payment and provide a VAT invoice on all work.

What Happens After You Accept a Quote

Once you accept the written quote, we schedule the work and confirm a start date. For larger jobs involving scaffold, we confirm scaffold erection dates separately. We contact you the working day before the start date to confirm the team is attending. On the day, the lead roofer will introduce themselves and walk through the planned work before starting. Any unexpected findings — structural timber problems, additional lead work required — are communicated immediately with a written price before any additional work is carried out. We don't make decisions on site without your knowledge and approval.
